Investigative journalism competition – revealing propaganda
Baltic to Black See Alliance –Georgia in cooperation with the Baltic to Black Sea Alliance (Latvia) and the Investigative Journalism Centre in the Baltics “Re:Baltica” are organizing a workshop for aspiring investigative journalism students (Bachelors and Masters level) to gain new practical knowledge and skills in a 1-day intensive program on April 28. The workshop will be lead by professional investigative journalists from Latvia and Georgia to give first-hand knowledge of most effective investigative journalism international practices.
If you are:
- A journalism student Bachelors or Masters level;
- Interested in investigative journalism;
- Eager to gain new journalism skills and use them in practice;
- In search for new challenges and open for opportunities to prove yourself as an aspiring investigative journalist;
- Like to use the opportunity to work under the mentorship of a professional journalist during 2-3 months;
- Appreciate the possibility in publishing your work in the national media.
After the workshop the participants will be divided into groups of 1-4 people to work on a case study for 6-8 weeks to produce an in-depth reporting material about a socially significant subject, which is presented in the information environment as controversial.
All the groups will automatically participate in a contest to compete for a prize fund for the in-depth reporting pieces. The prize – 1000 EUR for each country (500 EUR for 1st place, 300 EUR – 2nd place, and 200 – 3rd place.)
Each team will have to defend their material in from of a jury. The work will be evaluated based on the following main principles: topicality, quality and difficulty of research, professional quality, originality, made effort, publicity and outreach of the results. The jury holds the right to change the prize amounts for each place according to the results. Afterwards the best pieces and their authors will be rewarded during the prize award ceremony.
